GIS Services Enhance Digital Infrastructure for Smarter, More Efficient Airport Operations
CMT is providing consulting services to enhance the digital infrastructure of Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) through the implementation of an enterprise geographic information system (EGIS). This project will advance the airport’s digital capabilities, providing a solid foundation for future growth and operational excellence by improving the airport’s data management, accessibility, and operational efficiency, while laying the foundation toward fulfillment of an asset management system.
The project began with a thorough review of the airport’s existing data and geographic information system (GIS) schema followed by the creation of a detailed standards documentation for ESRI and AutoCAD based on FAA 18B guidelines. CMT managed the initial setup and stand-up of the software, built the necessary schemas, and imported all GIS data, which included the installation of the EGIS software and a comprehensive data conversion of drawings.
To allow various airport departments access to manage the data related to properties, utilities, airfield maintenance, and operations, CMT developed a user-friendly web interface, which includes a robust portal to facilitate external access until the asset management system phase is fully operational.
The GIS system is a critical step toward the airport’s goal of implementing a Safety Management System (SMS). Moreso, the airport envisions the vast potential for the EGIS as a platform to provide better management of both exterior and interior assets of record, including its passenger terminal facilities. CMT will be engaged for ongoing and planned phases for continued expansion of the EGIS.
